Dr. Joel Behar, Ph.D., LCSW, BCD, ABMP has been a mental health practitioner for over 35 years. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook Health Sciences Center and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. During his doctoral studies at the Graduate Center he was the recipient of a prestigious Carnegie- Mellon fellowship and upon completion of his PhD went on to become a Senior Researcher at the Center for Urban Studies at the Graduate Center.

Dr. Behar is a Fellow and Diplomate of numerous national boards, including: National Board of Medical Psychotherapists, National Board of Experts in Traumatic Stress, National Board of Forensic Sciences, among others. He is also a member of the American Psychological Association, American Sociological Association, and the International Association for the Study of Time.

As a mental health clinician, Dr. Behar has worked in a wide range of settings: psychiatric and general medical hospitals; schools; universities and non-profit organizations. He has extensive experience as a clinician, administrator, social scientific researcher and executive director of human service agencies.
