Join life coach and trainer Tony Ferraiolo as he presents the course “Understanding and Creating a Welcoming Environment for Your LGBTQ+ Clients”.
This course will provide an overview of common terminology and misconceptions of the LGBTQ+ community, understanding gender identity, harsh realities when health care is not caring, examples of what your trans and nonbinary clients want you to know, best practice on how to ask about gender identity and how to recover when you might misgender a patient. Participants will also learn how to create a safe and welcoming environment for the LGBTQ+ patient population.
Workshop Objectives:
- Learn and incorporate LGBTQ+ definitions into general vernacular.
- Evaluate personal biases as well as cultural misconceptions about LGBTQIA+ populations.
- Understand health disparities between LGBTQIA+ populations and the general public.
- Obtain concrete tools needed to provide a safe and respectful environment for LGBTQ+ clients and their families.
*This program has been approved for 1.5 Continuing Education Credit Hours by the National Association of Social Workers, CT and meets the continuing education criteria for CT Social Work Licensure renewal.
